Girl Scout cookies and awards!

In our neck of the woods, Girl Scout cookies sales started this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. sharp. 

As many of you know, I am a Girl Scout leader and my daughter and I have no qualms about stepping up to your front door and tempting you to break your New Year's resolution with our sugary treats.   

We have found that many of you have Thin Mint habits dating back to the days when you were a kid and didn't worry about how many grams of fat you were about to ingest.  You crumble so easily.

I know some of you dread our presence on your door step and you hide shaking behind your curtains until we retreat down the walk way.  But most of you welcome us with open arms, and to you we say thanks!

The girls not only use selling cookies as a means to earn money but they are also learning a thing or two in the process. The girls learn how to communicate effectively, set goals, manage money, and be assertive.  

Did you know that our council sells boxes of cookies for Operation Thin Mint ? OTM is a program set up by Girl Scouts to allow costumers to purchase boxes of cookies to be sent to our men and women serving in the military in places like Iraq and Afghanistan (an other bases over seas).  Living in a military town this is a popular option and something we are proud of!

Tagged, a few awards and I'm in a funk!

I have been in a funk since yesterday afternoon.  Did you hear the news of the military fighter jet that crashed in San Diego? Well, that happened down the street from where my girls go to school.  The two houses that were destroyed were across the street from a friend.  Several other friends live mere houses away.

As you can imagine this crash is having a huge impact on our community.  The whole incident makes me feel so vulnerable and out of sorts.

I thought I would take the time to get to catch up on some awards and a tag I received!  I had several awards to mention but in my compulsive need to be organized I accidentally deleted the file I was keeping them in!  I was only able to find the following:

Here are seven random things about myself:

1. I am a total control freak......but I try really hard to control it!  :)

2. I once spent a month in the Rainforest's of Honduras.

3. I bite my nails and because of this they are ugly beyond belief.  I have tried to stop but as far as bad habits go, it doesn't cost me any money, it isn't illegal and it won't make me fat!  So I keep it!

4. I was once featured in the San Diego Hall of Champions for excellence in High School sports.

5. I am terrified of deep dark water.  You couldn't pay me to ever take a cruise.  

6. I can only snorkel if my husband holds my hand (or swims really close).

7. Even though I am 41 and have two children I still wonder when I am going to feel like an adult.  :)

Blogger Awards!

1. Family -- I never imagined having a family and now I can't imagine my life without them.
   
2. Honesty -- I try my hardest to be honest with people and hope that they do the same.
3. Trust - a relationship without trust isn't worth the paper it is written on.
4. Ice Cream -- a good container of full fat ice cream.
5. Organization -- I couldn't imagine a life without it!

6. Intolerance -- reading this list I suppose I am somewhat intolerant! :)

2. Dandelion Wishes! Mamarrazi is one of my favorite bloggers. She is super witty and a great photographer. I love following her every blogger move!
3. This next one goes out to Melissa at Life with 3 boys and a little Lady! She is a single mom trying to raise up her boys all by herself. Her strength inspires me!
4. And then there is Miss Becky at Smile! it's Becky! Ok, I know she has already received both of these awards, but I just had to mention her. Not only is her blog totally creative and fun, she is probably one of the best "commenters" in all of blogger land!
5. Let's not forget Jenn at Random Thoughts. What can I say.....she is a hoot!
6. Last but not least is Miss Anne at Indefinately definite. She just received the top award so I don't expect her to play again, but I really enjoy her blog and wanted to give her another shout out because I think she deserves it!

I went back to my 2006 folder (oldest on this computer) and the folder that came up was my in-laws visit summer visit. This is a picture of me giving my Bee a little squeeze. Look how darn cute she is! The picture was taken by her big sis. For some reason I have this bad habit of scrunching down when my kids take pictures of me. I guess I'm worried they will cut my head off. Kind of looks like I'm trying to hide behind a twig!

I have so many new bloggers that I have been enjoying lately. I can think of more than five I would love to give this award to......but I want the Tag and the Bloggy Goodness Award to my original blogging homegirls: Val, Julie, Tina, Karen and K!

I have known these five women for nearly 13 years now. We all met in an email group that was started for moms with children born in the summer of '95. All five started their blogs before me and made me think, "hey.....that looks like fun, I think I can do that." None of them have gone as crazy as me with the blogging excess, but each have something wonderful to offer.
