Girl Scout cookies and awards!

In our neck of the woods, Girl Scout cookies sales started this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

As many of you know, I am a Girl Scout leader and my daughter and I have no qualms about stepping up to your front door and tempting you to break your New Year's resolution with our sugary treats.

We have found that many of you have Thin Mint habits dating back to the days when you were a kid and didn't worry about how many grams of fat you were about to ingest.  You crumble so easily.

I know some of you dread our presence on your door step and you hide shaking behind your curtains until we retreat down the walk way.  But most of you welcome us with open arms, and to you we say thanks!

The girls not only use selling cookies as a means to earn money but they are also learning a thing or two in the process. The girls learn how to communicate effectively, set goals, manage money, and be assertive.

Did you know that our council sells boxes of cookies for Operation Thin Mint ? OTM is a program set up by Girl Scouts to allow costumers to purchase boxes of cookies to be sent to our men and women serving in the military in places like Iraq and Afghanistan (an other bases over seas).  Living in a military town this is a popular option and something we are proud of!

So, what is your favorite Girl Scout cookie???

Now I need to thank a few bloggers for bestowing the following awards to little ole me.

Thanks to Katie at Your's mine and ours , Marla at Stolen Bon Bons , Ronnica at the Ignorant Historian , Kajamama at the Phrase Working Mom is Redundant and Maricris at Zen Ventures.

Thanks ladies.......I really do appreciate all the love and I pass on that love to all of you!

mmmm...thin mints are pretty darn good. I like the shortbread cookies too! My nieces are in girl scouts and I made my purchase last weekend:)

We placed an initial order of 4 boxes- 2 of the chocolatey-coconutty-caramel mounds of sin that my husband devours, 1 thin mint, one crispy cinnamonny thing. And then, we bought two more, one lemonade, one shortbread. 6 boxes! I'd like to think that half will go to the freezer, and we'll spread the joy for a few months but...
congrats on the awards!
Blessings!

#1 - Thin Mints
#2 - Samoas (the only ones I don't have any competition on in the house).

I was a Girl Scout for years when I was younger, and I think it is a great organization. I did so many things as a Girl Scout that I wouldn't have done otherwise -- including participating on a competitive canoe team! I enjoyed the photo of your daughter and seeing her sash. Takes me back in time. (I wonder if my parents still have mine?) And I agree -- Girl Scout cookies are about much much more than just raising money. You learn so much. And I admire that you do it the old-fashioned way by going door-to-door. I wish a Girl Scout would come to my door -- they would make a mint! (pun intended!)

Great post!

Oh yes the thin mints are a huge favorite too. Jeff and I fight over the boxes. I love the OTM, what a great program.

I used to be a girl scout and used to sell the cookies...my favorite is the Carmel Delight...(I refuse to call them the new name). I also love Thin Mints and there used to be this kind that has strawberry jam in the middle of it...it was good.

Thin Mints hands down. Love those cookies. I was a girl scout all of my elementary and High school years. I have even earned my silver award. Encourage her and work with her to get her Gold award! I would even give you pointers. Never finished mine and regret it BIG time. I was always the top seller in my troop with around 300 cookies.

The 4 girls in my troop who sold, sold nearly 550 boxes of cookies. Very exciting. Our sales ended Feb 1. They come in at the end of February. I absolutely love Samoas. We also have a new cookie called a Dulce de Leche that I'm excited to try!

That is a great program to send the cookies to the troops. And I am a Tagalong woman myself.

Growing up my favorites were Carmel Delites (if you don't know what those are, they're milk chocolate versions of Samoas), but now my favorites are Peanut Butter Patties. I could eat them everday...so I'm glad they're only sold once a year!

As a mother of 3 Girl Scouts, I can tell you we are right in the midst of our sales. Cookies come in on Saturday and we have been pounding the pavement in our neighborhood to beg people to buy. In this economy, it's much fewer than last year but it's even harder to split between the 3 of them. Luckily, we are the only scouts in our neighborhood so at least the only competition is each other.
Tagalongs are a huge favorite in our house but the new Dulce de Leche are SOOOOOOO GOOD!! They had a sample at the cookie dance a few weeks ago...YUMMY!!!

Jenni said...

Tagalongs! Which are not peanut butter patties! I LOVE those things!

Pamela said...

thin mints in our house are counted as follows:
One box has 2 packages. That's 2 servings.
We are not allowed to have thin mints in the house unless we have company over to regulate our behavior.

Thanks for stopping at my blog :-)

I love most the cookies, isn't there a coconut kind? but I confess I do not like the mint ones. :-)

We don't really do the cookie sales in London. It is obviously a big thing in your neck of the woods and others going on the comments :) Kim
