Photo Story Friday!

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

You first started playing soccer when you were seven years old. How cute you looked all decked out in your tiny cleats, tiny shin guards and brightly colored over sized uniform. As parents we were excited at the prospect of cheering you and your teammates on from the sidelines and I was really looking forward to finally becoming a "soccer mom."

Here we are 12 seasons later, and you have come along way my not so little soccer player. Your sweet, non aggressive, non competitive nature has always been at odds with playing the game of soccer. But this season you have really showed us what you are made of.

You are aggressive enough to show the other team you mean business, but you never go over board! You are competitive enough to want to win, but you always remain a good sport even when your team loses. You have finally released your inner athlete and most importantly, you are an awesome team player.

I know you say this will be your last season playing soccer and I can certainly understand that you are getting older and want to pursue other interests...........but I can honestly say that I will miss being your "soccer"mom.  So little girl, enjoy the rest of your last season playing soccer and know that I am proud of you.

Love,

Your Soccer Mom!

I have a feeling there are things like this in my future as a mom...my kids will be ready to move on to something new and I'll want to keep holding on.

Aw, but a bittersweet post..

Have you ever read, Let me hold you longer by Karen Kingsbury? I think you would love it..

Soccer is such a boys game in the UK - really like the US attitude to this game. I'm sorry too that she won't be playing any more.

Great shots! I am a soccer mom too and I dread the day that they quit playing. They're only 7 & 5 now, so hopefully I have a few years left!

This was so sweet, I do hope she gets to read this! Beautiful shots!

Awwwww! Such a milestone... You think she really will quit it this year though? 'cause my monkey swears every year that she will no longer join cheerleading, but do something else, yet every year she goes back to it!!!

As for me, it's a love/hate relationship with their activities. They somehow tend to take over our lives!!!

OH! I didn't know you had a little Min Pin ;) I looked at some MinPin/Chihuahuas and they're so cute!
Do you have any sage advice for me? Adopting adult vs puppy ... good with kids? You know the basics. I read that they're supposed to be good with kids if they're raised with them. Is yours a barker? Does he shed? Hehehe hope you don't mind my questions! ;)

What a wonderful letter to your daughter. Soccer is not an easy game and she's stuck it out for all these years. What an amazing young woman.

Now I'm a bit sad she's moving on, too! :)

wow... 12 seasons of one sport... i am impressed. even though she's moving on, all the great lessons of perseverance, focus, commitment will stay with her. now what are YOU going to do with all your free time?

Actually I am soccer times two. The youngest is playing again after a 3 year break. But she is fickle and might decide to take another 3 year break when the season is up.

Great shots. She sounds like the kind of daughter that we all hope to raise. I hope that she will enjoy her next interest as much as she has soccer. :) Great PSF!

Sounds like it is a game you both enjoy. Girls grow up and interests change, are you ready to help her write the next chapter?

What a good idea to release her so graciously to pursue her own changing interests. I am having mixed feelings this fall as I know that this may be my daughter's last season too. It was great for me to read this right now. You said what I am feeilng exactly!
