First 5th Grade Fundraiser.....Check!

Those of you that know me, know that I volunteer a lot!  This school year is no exception except that I am trying to step back and let other people be in charge (something that is kind of hard for the control freak in me!).

Last night we had our first fundraiser for 5th grade promotion.  We earned money by selling hot dogs, chips, soda, ice cream and baked goods to the crowd that showed up for Back to School Night (aka Open House).

The crowds seemed kind of light, so we were a little concerned we wouldn't meet our projected income.  But I have a theory on this.  The crowds only seem smaller when you are depending on them for income!!!

We counted the money this morning and while expenses haven't been submitted yet, when all is said and done our income will be around $1,200.00.  Yee haw!  That is $400.00 over our projected income.  Not to shabby!

The pictures are of Kate and her friend Kenni pushing raffle....ahh, I mean "opportunity drawing" tickets.  The other is of Kate and her buddy Jackie dancing to "YMCA."  Nothing screams par-ty like dancing to the Village People!!

Crazy Dayz have begun!

People always think I'm crazy when I say that I am not totally looking forward to the girls going back to school.  Here is why........

Today's schedule:
8:00 to 9:45 - Lead 5th grade fundraiser meeting.
10:00 to 12:00 - Hair appointment (actually fun because I sit and chat with BFF).
12:05 to 12:35 - Grocery store run.
12:40 to 1:35 - Put groceries away then run down to Costco.
1:35 - Quickly put groceries away and eat lunch.
1:50 to 2:40 - rush to school to supervise Safety Patrol, spend extra time chatting with a friend about the script we need to write for the school play!
3:00 to 4:00 - Get stuff ready for tomorrows 8 am craft fair meeting (I'm the chairperson) and help Kate with homework.
4:05 to 4:35 - Pick up girls up at middle school, run into another friend to chat with then stop at Jamba Juice on way home.
5:00 to 6:15 - Sit, relax, chat and watch soccer practice for Kate, send Reid with a friend to her practice.
6:20 to 7:00 - Make dinner, pick up the house and do dishes.
7:30 to 8:30 - Eat dinner, quiz Reid on State abbreviations, listen to her a speech in spanish, quiz Kate on spelling words.
8:35 - Read email.......update blog!

And that is why I wish summer was just a little bit longer.

Giving Back!

Last Friday a few of the girls from my Cadette Girl Scout troop went to the Ronald McDonald House to cook dinner for the families staying there.

The girls made "fiesta chicken", beans, rice, salad and desert for 60 families.

This is the second time our troop has done this service project.  It is such a rewarding project for the girls and for the moms who helped.  Not only do you get to create a home cooked meal for families who are spending many days away from home, but you can also be there to lend an ear to a family member who may be all alone with their child at the hospital.

It's a lot of work but well worth it.  The best thing is you don't have to be a  girl scout troop or involved with an organization to cook dinner at RMH.  All you need is the desire to help and some basic cooking skills.  Think about getting your friends and family together to do the same thing in your neighborhood.....you won't regret it.
