PSF- Something Old

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Back in the late 1970's, while visiting a client, my Dad noticed a unique piece of art work hanging on his clients office wall.

The piece of art that caught his attention was a collection of old cancelled stamps.  They were carefully cut out and mounted on tiny black squares in a beautiful frame.

My Dad was so intrigued by the collection that he decided that day that he would start his own collection.

After more than 20 years of collecting cancelled stamps (and not doing anything with them) he handed the huge dusty box over to me.

The girls and I spent several hours cutting the stamps and their cancellation date away from their dusty envelopes.

The new, and much smaller box, is sitting on my breakfast bar begging me to play with them.

Fun, but now what do you do with them? I'll be curious to hear.

Cool!!! We used to collect them when I was a kid, I wonder if our box of old stamps is still at my parents' house somewhere. Have fun with your new adventure!

Oh neat! What a fun project! Are you going to mount them somehow?

I lovelovelove that idea. If you did nothing except put those little squares of color into a glass jar to occassionally dump out and look at, I would still love it. If you mounted them like you remember seeing them, I would love that, too. I even love the photo. Guess it is LoveItFriday. :-)
hmmm... now there's a blog post theme...
lol! (is that Lots o' Love?)
Later!

So is your plan to now frame some? I used to collect but they got taken from me. :( I never started back up.

I'm so curious what your ideas are!

I don't know why... but that got my heart fluttering...

What a totally groovy idea!

OMG... the things you could do with them! Mosaic frame, write words with them inside a frame, decoupage them to a vase or lampshade, make a unique modern art piece by placing them exactly 1 inch apart in rows...

sooooo cool! I'm going to steal this and start my collecion now!

I should finish by 2025!

I used to collect stamps, too! But not cancelled ones.....cool. You know they could make some neat coasters, or something. :-)

I have a ton of old stamps and some food rashing stamps that my grandmother had saved from when she was little. I should put them up as well.

I guess because you're crafty, this is a great project for you. If it had been my dad, though, I might have said, "No thanks!" I hope it turns out great.

Gosh I totally remember the carousel horse and that LOVE stamp in the right corner of the photo. They would look fantastic like the piece that inspired the collection: mounted on black paper.
You could give it to your dad for father's day...!
