WW - Coincidence!

Last month my daughter, Reid visited Washington DC with her 8th grade class.  One of the stops on their whirl wind trip was the Vietnam Memorial Wall

There are 58,260 names craved on the black granite wall of the memorial.  While looking at all of the names Reid became intrigued by the tiny plus marks (that look like crosses) that she saw next to some of the soldiers names.  She wanted to remember the tiny crosses so she zoomed in for a close up.

Not only did she capture the plus sign, and her reflection, but she also captured the name of a solider that was the father of a friend's friend.

Our friend Matt's college roommate was the son of one of the names in this picture that Reid took.  Matt's daughter Erin was looking at the picture when she recognized the name.

A few degrees of separation, but out of 58,260 names on the wall, Reid finds the one name that her best friends dad knows.  What are the odds of that happening?  I find strange coincidences like that so twilight zone-ish!

The pluses marks that appear next to some of the soldiers names indicate that they are missing.  The diamond's mean that they have passed away and are accounted for.  The pluses can be turned into a diamond if the soldier is found.

The plus marks indicate if a solider is still missing. The diamonds mean that they are accounted for and have passed away. If a missing solider is found then they can turn the plus into a diamond.

Pretty neat (and a little weird). Did you ever find out why some soldiers have crosses next to their names? I would love to know. Maybe I will google it later.

That is amazing! And I love that photo. I found the Vietnam Memorial to be so powerful ... I remember visiting with my mom and just being overcome... all those names and then seeing yourself reflected in it. I'm not surprised something like that happened ... it is a very special place and powerful things happen there.

That is spooky how that turned out!

The traveling memorial was in our town back in November, and it was so neat! My husband had wanted to go and rub the names of people he knew from his town but we didn't get a chance.
