My love affair with Apple computers started back in 1985 when I tagged along with my boyfriend to his after hour job at a computer company.
The company had one lonely little Apple computer (one of the first) sitting in a room all by itself.
I'm not sure if anyone at the company actually used the Apple computer. In fact, I think it was there for all the IBM users to laugh at.
However, the minute my boyfriend turned on that Apple for me I was smitten....with the computer that is.
My first real experience using Apple computers would come a few year later while working for my Dad's typesetting and graphic arts company. You see, while the rest of the business world used IBM type computers, the graphic arts world was using Apple computers.
The very first computer I owned was a Macintosh Performa. My dad bought it for me so that I could work from home while I was pregnant with my Daughter Reid back in 1995.
My Performa was my gateway to the world wide web! At the time it seemed so progressive.
Then in 2000 I moved on to my lovely Strawberry iMac. I thought this was possibly the cutest computer on the planet. Apparently having a little junk in your trunk wasn't in back then because Apple moved very quickly to the skinny iMac.
So in 2005 I bought my skinny 17 inch iMac. She is actually still with me but has been down graded to the "girls" computer.
She has been down graded because on Christmas day, this little 20 inch beauty joined the family and knocked my 17 incher down a notch on the computer tote tum pole.
So far, I am over joyed with her performance and sleek beauty. I am looking forward to our brief life together and I'm sure I will be just as smitten with her as I was the first time I tapped on an Apple keyboard back in 1985.

Side note: Blogs that looked good on my 17 inch iMac now look F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S on my new 20 inch glass front monitor.
So don't be surprised if you hear a lot of ooooohhhhhs and awwwwwws from me next time I stop in to say hi. :)

I am totally with you on this one. I too remember my first apple.
How exciting!!! Congrats!!!
I don't have a Mac... but I do have a lovely 22 inch flat screen monitor (I am coveting your glass front one)... that yes... you are right... makes the blogs look so much more fabulous!!!!
We have an iMac, iBook, and Apple TV. My husband is Apple Crazy as you are. It took me some time to get used to it, but I must say, once I became familiar with the features, I began to love it. Well, maybe because he also bought the Microsoft suite for Macs helped a little.
I got my laptop this weekend... sadly, I did not get an iBook. Just not in the budget right now. But I got a nice little Toshiba that I am very happy with! Woo hoo!
purty!
my pc-lovin' husband says that MAYBE my next computer will be an apple.
we'll see...
:-)
enjoy!
oooohhh yep totally mac envy... or should I start with "hello, I'm a pc..."
They sure are pretty those new macs
congrats :-)
Did you know my hubby works for Apple....yah...talk about a love affair...he's OBSESSED!
Ha! I love new toys:)
Jealous...jealous...jealous!
Congrats! I am glad Santa was good to you this year!
i hear that apple fans are TRUE apple fans and never go back. sounds like the love affair has been long and loving
oh - I am a MAC lover too - always had one at work - my hubs is into Dell - so that is what we have. But the children are taking over my computer - so I think I may need to get a laptop for myself!
YAY! I got a MAC for Christmas this year too! My husband has had one for quite awhile (he's a programmer) and loves it. He bought my very own Mac Book and it was LOVE and first stroke. I'm never going back. This is a true and enduring love.
:-)
You lucky girl!
I have only used a Mac a few times. We are required to know how to use it at school for the TV class, so I can work iMovie. Other than that, I get lost.
I'll have to get one my junior year in college for the media business!
I was a computer nut when I was little and took a summer program called, you're going to love this...
Mac Attack!
I also took Mac Attack 2.
Alas I am a poor IBM user simply because I haven't been exposed to a Mac. I am considering the switch for my daughter, she's eight and I want her to get into the acedemia world - which is mac dominated!
what a lovely new addition :)
i've been a madly in love mac-lover for years now. hate the pc...especially when it comes to photoediting! anyway, i'm glad ur love affair continues!
i love the "mac timeline" :)
we always used mac's in schools when i was teaching and i reallly liked them...
congrats on your new "addition"
:)
I want a mac so bad but I just can't afford it right now....Enjoy yours!
OMG, I want to have an affair with all your apples! :)
Have fun!
Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!
Great post Michelle!
I love how you posted pictures of your by-gone macs and with loving remarks for each.
I remember working on one just like your first one. The couple I babysat for and did office work for had a mac. At the time my parents didn't have a computer so I knew no different. When I grew up and got my own computer, it was my husband who purchased a pc....so no apple for me. I often think that I would like an ibook for my laptop, but will probably end up with a dell....since we seem to be loyal to them these past few years.
Enjoy your new baby with her BIG screen....I have a fabulously large monitor too....I find I sit up straighter with her since I don't have to lean in to see things better.
I loved following your love affair, even though I AM jealous! :)
Happy New Year~!
Gosh ... it was a trip down memory lane seeing your Macs! I had a bunch of Macs starting in college and did have a blueberry iMac. Then the pressure to have the Windows PC was so great that I defected (through no choice of my own -- you just needed to be on Windows for my job) but now even my husband admits that the next computer we get will be a Mac.
Sometimes we just stop by the Apple store just oooohhh and aaaaahhhh over their cool stuff. We were looking at the Airbook and I was so impressed.
Enjoy your lovely Mac! They really should be the ones that have all the market share!
You sound like my dad & brother - who are both in the advertising/music producing business - they are totally addicted to theirs, however I still remain a PC gal....however I DO love my iPod!
I am TOTALLY jealous! I love my little Gateway laptop, however, I secretly, ahem, loudly make pleas for a MAC. One day! :o)
How fun. Congrats on the 20" My hubby converted me a year ago and I can't personally go back. Still use a Dell for work, but personal? Never!
Congrats on the the computer! I know you have been needing one!
just stopping by from sits to say hi. congrats on your shiny new computer!
I have no idea what kind of computer I have...but boy oh boy do I LOVE my flat screen monitor with its gorgeous picture. So I know what you're saying about pictures looking good!
Once you fo Mac, you never go back, LOL! I too remember my first, back in 1994. We now have two and I've loved them all!!
They are pretty computer, aren't they? I just can't seem to find my way around a Mac with the ease I can a PC... I'm a PC girl. But the Macs are prettier.
Hah! We have the same one at home in my hub's office but I can't say he loves it as much as you do. But he is pleased with it!!!!!
Lucky ducky!! I'd love a big screen like that :).
Happy New Year to you!
still jealous here!
congrats! how exciting! I hope to one day be exposed to a Mac!
Awwww... what a sweet love... I mean "apple" story! : )
You are certainly a MAC girl through and through, aren't ya! Love your new one!
Shhhh, I really really want a Mac but the guy in charge of all things computers is totally against them. *sigh*
Jealous am I!!!!!
My mother has one of these computers. It's SO cool. (I, on the other hand, do not...) No reason in particular except my computer hasn't gone kaput yet. :)
