Writing assignment - Demon Dentist

I'm on the ball this week and ready to complete the writing assignment dished out by Kat over at Mama's Losin it!

The prompt I am writing about this week is "my worst dentist experience ever"!

I have been going to the same dentist since I was 5 years old. In the thirty six years that I have been his patient there was only one time when I thought he was a Demon in a lab coat.

Demon dentist first appeared the day I had to have all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. I was seventeen and and thought it would be a piece of cake having my teeth pulled. Oh silly naive girl!

The procedure started off fine. I was given some laughing gas to relax me before he started poking me with numerous shots of Novocaine. The shots were unpleasant but not horrendously so.

The first three teeth came out fairly easily. Dr. Dentist showed me my teeth, complete with roots, as they exited my mouth.  How cool was I that I could marvel at my freshly removed bloody teeth?

Everything went down hill when he arrived at the finally wisdom tooth. You see, tooth number four was turned sideways and needed to be broken into pieces to be removed. This was when the gates of dental hell opened up and welcomed me in to it's ghastly grip.

Sparing you the gruesome details, there wasn't enough Novocaine in all of dental hell that would get me completely numb on the left side of my jaw.

Dr. Demon had to finish what he had started and I had to man up and let him do it. With tears rolling down my face, and nurses holding down my arms, he worked with the speed of a possessed demon dentist.

I left that office with a face so numb and swollen, I could barely talk. I vowed that someday I would get revenge on Demon Dentist.

Well, that was until he gave me a prescription for vicodin and three of my freshly pulled teeth in a little bag.

Cool! Drugs and teeth! I gave those three teeth to my weird science teacher (did I ever mention that I went to the High School that Cameron Crowe based his movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High on?).

Weird science teacher had a collection of human teeth. We all suspected that he also had a collection of dead bodies in his back yard........but that is another story for another time.

So there you have it folks!
If you made it this far without falling asleep head over to Mama's Losin it to get your own writing assignment.

dude..you're brave! Every time I get a lil cavity in a wisdom tooth the dentist tries to talk me into gettin' those babies pulled. I say UH-UH...NOWAY, fill 'em but you can't have 'em! I've heard horror stories. My friends dentist got a drill bit stuck in her jaw. And she can't afford a surgeon to go in and cut it out so she's walking around with a drill bit in her jaw!! Can you believe that??!!

YOU.ARE.AMAZING!

I've "manned up" through a root canal... it was hell.. but i think mouth pain is much worse... Dentists can either be the devil or a saint.... needless to say it's not my "favorite" place to go, but good oral hygeine is a necessity!

I bet your science teacher is/was a cool fella! crazy, but cool!

:) great writing assignment!

I remember my dentist get on a step ladder to get high enough above me to see in the deep recesses of my mouth to get one of my wisdom teeth out.

I was on Valium and remember thinking... wow... he got tall in a hurry! I was 18, and my Papa said I was singing A Chorus Line songs down the dentists driveway.

You poor thing! That must have been horrendous! You are obviously tolerant to novacaine.

That photo is hilarious, by the way! As was the post! I've gotten to 41 and never went through the hell that is wisdom teeth removal (I don't even know if I have them...maybe that's why I can't do math!) but I've seen it up close and personal and everyone has suffered. But you got to take your teeth home in a bag? That is very weird and strange. And now I want to know more about your high school. Did you actually go to school with Cameron Crowe or just the high school? More on this please!

This is why I never got my wisdom teeth out!! That and dentist give me the heebie jeebies like you can't imagine! I'm also getting the same type of heebie jeebies about your science teacher!! YEEKS HE COLLECTS HUMAN TEETH!

Oh and about that frumpy sweater....do you have one I could borrow!!!

I grimaced the whole way through that. Great story! But yet horrible at the same time. How were you conscious enough to notice those teeth he was showing you? You are hard core!

You see, that is the very reason that I requested to be completely out to have mine removed. I would have run and never returned!

I did not go to school with Cameron Crowe! To do his research he posed as a student at my HS. But I believe I was in 6th grade at the time.

I was numb for the three teeth that were pulled first, so no pain was involved with those teeth. So not really all that brave!

If you saw how much I was crying you would not think I was brave with the last tooth. :)

Ouch!!! I had 2 of my wisdom teeth growing sideways ... the dentist decided to put me under, so I never felt anything. I fell asleep, and then the doc woke me up after he was done ... AND he gave me some percoset.

Holy frigging OUCH! I think I would have asked for my crushed tooth too, though! You EARNED that one!

Great post, but don't apologize to your reader at the end ("If you made it this far with out falling asleep.."). It undermines your story. Stand by your tale!

Ugh, the dentist. *shiver*

And your next post should follow up on the weird science teacher...sounds like a story in the making there!

Drugs and teeth in a bag. What more could a girl ask for?

Yours is the 3rd terrible dentist story I've read, and I'm absolutely cringing!

I have got to quit reading these dentist stories. I go in Monday for a root canal. I hope it goes better than yours and there is enough novacain!

i actually felt physical pain in my mouth just now...ow!

You poor thing!I could barely stomach just reading the part about tooth number four being sideways and needing to be broken into pieces to be extracted!

I don't think I could sit through the whole procedure.. 4 wisdom teeth being taken away at the same time?? That's some tough stuff!

I still have three left. The first one became dry socket, so pain was Hell...

OMG Michelle! That is why I was knocked OUT for my wisdom teeth removal. Yikes!

Melissa said...

Oh geez....what a story!!! But, nothing that some vicodin can't cure, right?? :)

Heidi @ Tayterjaq's Rebels said...

Ok....I am NEVER getting mine taken out. Your story just clinched it. I have been on the fence...ok, scared to death and not willing unless I am TOTALLY out but I think I will just keep them now. They're not that bad...extra chewing areas, right?

Jen said...

Great story, I totally skipped my assignment this week.

Lindsay said...

They would've had to have knocked me out then and there. I couldn't have stood the pain. I'm glad that I had mine impacted so they could knock me out. The recovery sucked, but I didn't have to have a story like that afterwards!

Oh my gosh...you just scared me half to death. I was luckily only born with two wisdom teeth and despite doing the whole braces thing, they let me keep my teeth. Well, one of them is completely horizontal. I am now scared to death of having it pulled! If it ever comes to that, I think I'll have to be sedated!
