PSF -1970's Ceramic Tree

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

If you grew up in the 1970's then there is a good chance that your mom spent an afternoon or two painting one of these ceramic Christmas trees at the local rec center.

Our ceramic tree (that plays silent night) was painted by my mother in law back in 1977.  It is a treasured relic from my husbands childhood.

I'll be the first to admit that when I first saw this tree many moons ago I sort of questioned why my husband would want to put it out.

Then I looked around at my collection of homemade Christmas decorations from my Grandma and I instantly understood.

A Christmas does not go by without our ceramic tree and I wouldn't have it any other way.

How cool! I love the old stuff that brings back the memories.

I always hate it that I had to leave my ex without notice (restraining order) and I didn't get the ornaments out of the home, that I had as a child :(

I miss the memories they bring.

Both my mother-in-law and my grandmother have these trees set out. Gifts to them, they became standard decor at Christmas. I agree, when I first saw it I said, "ummmm . . . hmmmmm," but now I find them darling with that vintage touch. : D

BOTH of my grandmothers had the ceramic trees.
I wonder what ever happened to them?
Great photo by the way. I like the perspective.

Part of the fun of decoration for Christmas is remembering years past. Every decoration has its own story! :)

Sweet! I love old Christmas relics. I've been looking for those Charlie Brown Christmas lights. Those big, fat, heavy ones that we all put up on the house. Getting kinda sick of the icicle lights. Gotta love Retro!

I hope you have a very merry Christmas, that Santa brings you everything you deserve and that it doesn’t take too long to work off the effects of Christmas dinner.

Thank you for being part of what has been a fascinating year for me.

I have one too. I love it. I always want to put in a stronger bulb than they recommend so that the lights will be brighter! :-)

Oh thanks for the wonderful reminder of that tree! My mom made the SAME THING....now I need to go ask her where it is. Yeah...not the prettiest thing ever, but so 70's and scream "ceramics class!" LOL.

Hah! I think my mom has one just like that! I'll have to ask her about it!

I unfortunately don't have any old stuff at my house, but I love to visit my parents and see the things from my childhood. They have these really awesome old Christmas light bulbs that long since burned out that I turned into ornaments as a child (thank you, rubber bands and paper clips!) and it's neat to think that they still have them after so many years.

That sure brought back memories! My mom had one when I was younger. She didn't paint it herself, but it was always on the coffee table come Christmas :)

I had one of these tree growing up. It was my favorite Christmas decoration. I usually persuaded my mom to let me have it in my room. I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. I don't know why but it just made me happy. Thank for reminding me about it. I feel all warm inside, that could be the wine, no its the memory. ;)

Oh, I love that! I have the turning Xmas tree light from my childhood - the one that rotates and shines four different colors on the tree. Very retro! (Wait, that means I'm retro. Sigh.)

Happy Holidays!

Oh! My grandma puts one of these out for Christmas every year. Whenever I see one I think of Christmas dinners at her house when I was a kid.

Great PSF! Merry Christmas!
