Playing with free photoshop actions

If you have Photoshop it is more than likely that you have heard about actions.  You have probably bought a few for yourself or downloaded some of the freebies being offered up on various websites.  If you haven't, then what in the world are you waiting for?  Seriously!

Haven't heard of actions?  In a nut shell, actions are the recorded steps you take in photoshop to create a special effect on your photo.  They are in two words....total awesome!

Cruising around on Pinterest I found more than a few pinners mentioning sites offering free actions so of course I jumped right on it (because laundry can wait when there are freebies to be had).

I have fallen head over heels in love with this Polaroid Generator 3 Action from Devianart.com.

These fake Polaroids make me really bummed that I ever put that Polaroid camera in the goodwill bag.  Sniff!

Moving on with my current obsession with all things vintage I also downloaded this Vintage actions set from Deviantart.com (they have 100 free sets currently being offered up).
Whenever I buy or download free actions I like to create collages showing what all of the actions look like on one photo.  One thing you will find when using actions is that not all actions work well with every photo.  So while I wouldn't necessarily use each of these actions for this particular photo it gives me a good idea of what the actions look like.

Here are two more sites for free actions that I use: The Coffee Shop Blog and Pioneer Woman.  Do you own actions sets that you L-O-V-E?  I'd love to hear what you are currently loving?

I would love to learn to use Photoshop (I've tried but I've decided I'm one of those students who needs some special ed in this area). Then maybe I could learn to use actions.

I'm with Kathy (above)...I need special ed for Photo Shop. I bought it, but have SO much trouble trying to figure it out. (think I need a class....)

I really, really want to figure it out though. Badly.

I have photoshop, have downloaded some actions and have no clue on how to use photoshop. Decided to purchase elements (hoping I may figure that one out because it may be easier?) and have no idea on how to use that either. *bowing head in shame*

I continue to use photoscape....until my brain can comprehend photoshop or elements. (Yep, I have watched video tutes and everything) :(

I'm taking notes, but I don't really understand it. I suppose I would if I really dove in.

Thanks so much for the links! I use actions from Rita's Coffeeshop Blog, MCP actions and Pioneer Woman, but I use my LR presets more often. I have a lot to learn in PS. I love that Poloroid action though and will definitely download it. I actually still have 2 Poloroid cameras as I have always loved them. I can't find film for them anymore though ;(

I love MCP actions! I've heard great things about RAD, but have yet to try their actions.

I'm wondering if you have any action to make collages? Like you take a bunch of photos and all get resized and tiled with no border, maybe that you can choose how many rows and columns.
