Jim and I started dating in November of 1987. Needless to say, we did a lot of holiday related outings those first few months of our relationship.
One of the first Christmas events together was attending the OB Christmas parade. This small beach community produces what is probably one of the funkiest, most unique homespun parades around.
That first year we only caught the last 15 minutes of what was a 30 minute parade of neighbors walking down the street with lights dangling off their peace signs and old surfers dancing around with their beat up surf boards.
It was a hoot and we were hooked! Little did we know that year that we would start a yearly tradition that would eventually include our two daughters.
These days our favorite tradition is sitting curbside in our chairs eating steaming hot Tamales from Ortegas. By far the best parade route Tamales in town.
I'll have some more pictures of the unique Ocean Beach flavor on Friday!
This Wordful Wednesday was brought to you by Angie over and Seven Clown Circus.
Come and play along!
Side note: I took both of these pictures. The second picture is of a truck covered in christmas lights cruising by. I shot it with a really slow shutter speed to get this cool effect.

Oh, I would love a parade where you could sit and relax, and not have to be bundled from head to toe in winter gear....and STILL have to go inside to warm up half way through. :-)

That sounds like a cool parade but I can't imagine a Christmas parade not being bundled up and freezing. Its just not right.
It's unique that you ended up having it as a family tradition! Your daughters I'm sure love it! I would too especially if I get to eat hot tamales! :)
