It's a good day to be an American!

For as long as I can remember my younger brother and I went with my mom when she voted. Sometimes we voted in a neighbors garage.  I can remember being envious of the neighbors that had the polls in their garage.  It looked like so much fun sitting there waiting for people to come and vote.

When we got a little bit older the polling place moved to the church next to our Elementary school.  That first year they had fancy booths with real curtains.  Since the booth only fit one adult my brother and I had to wait and watch as my mom voted.  I can still see that image of my moms legs behind that curtain.  It all seemed so mysterious.

When I turned 18 I couldn't wait to become a registered voter.  I remember registering to vote like it was yesterday.

I was leaving the DMV with my temporary license in hand when I was stopped by a man sitting at a card table asking me if I was a registered voter.  When I said no, he asked me if I wanted to register.........Well, heck yeah, sign me up!

As I filled out the information he asked me which party I wanted to register with.  Hmmm, this wasn't something I had ever given a lot of thought to.  As I pondered my choices the man at the card table said, "I get a dollar if you register as a Republican."

I felt kind of sorry for the guy, so I registered as a Republican.

Since registering I think I have only missed two local elections and  I have voted in every Presidential election since Bush's Daddy ran for office.  I love voting and I am glad that I am passing on this passion to my girls.  They have gone with me voting since they were babies.

We are all proudly wearing our "I voted" stickers!

How great that you take your daughters.

We voted by early ballot this year (to avoid the lines) and although we talked with our kids about the election a lot, I now am sorry we didn't go vote at a polling place. My daughter just asked me when we were going to vote. She remembers going with me for the last election.

my kids don't remember not voting with me. they wear the I Voted sticker like a badge of honor. of course, we get to choose what time to go. 10:30 am is good- after the opening rush, before the lunch crowd and those coming from work. this year we scored free donuts with our stickers- extra sweetness!
nothin' like democracy, no? :-)

He got a dollar for you registering as Republican? that's pretty funny!

I always went to vote with my dad, last election he let me push the buttons for the vote, so yes, I can say that I voted for Bush in Palm Beach County...yup, I'm one of "them".

I really wanted to go to the actual polling place for my first election that I can legally vote in, but I did the absentee ballot just to be safe! It was a good thing I did too as there was no way I could have gotten to the place.

I think it's SO cool that your mom let you be involved in her voting! Jet managed to get a sticker today when he went with me...I hope my girls think it's important when they are old enough...better start convincing them now! ;)

I take my kids too! Always have, even when all three were under 5.

It is the best civics lesson around.

Way to go!!!

yes we took our 4 yr old with us to vote this morning. We are proud to do it and proud of our local props that all went "our" way. We worked darn hard on one of them so it's VERY good news.

YAY for voting!
I think it's so cool that you went with your mom to vote when you were younger. What a fun memory.

I grew up with lots of voting memories, too. (And yes, this means that I'm over a week behind in commenting.)

That's funny that you registered Republican so the dude could get a dollar!
